Extended Bio:

Abbey Bones (Rawson) is a multidisciplinary creative based in South Australia. She has experience as a writer, a printmaker, a filmmaker, an animator, a designer and an illustrator. She is studying Archaeology - material studies, which informs her practice. She has worked on resource development, production and animation projects for The University of Adelaide, and Flinders University.

Experience:

  • Graduated from the Bachelor of Visual Arts & Design at the Adelaide College of the Arts, majoring in printmaking.

  • Undertaken courses through CDW Studios in Visual Effects and Entertainment Design.

  • Is an assistant editor of Dig-it, a Flinders University Magazine

  • Completed a six month Mentorship with Sally Heinrich (a renowned writer & illustrator) and undertook the Creative Incubator Program at TAFESA focusing on illustration and digital processes.

  • Was awarded the IAF Franz Kempf Printmakers Award, and has traveled to Italy, Scotland & India to learn from master artists and crafts people through arts grants from The Helpmann Academy & Carclew House.

  • Has worked on several short films as an animator, producer and in the arts department.

  • Has worked in educational resource production through The University of Adelaide and Flinders University

  • Has run creative workshops in educational settings.

  • Has produced greeting cards, posters, zines & templates.

  • Conference Photographer at the World Archaeology Conference (WAC-10) and the Australian Archaeology Conference (AAA-2024).

Abbey combines printmaking, drawing & painting techniques with digital illustration. She is a student of Archaeology and is inspired by natural history, scientific illustration, curios, anthropomorphism, surrealism, mysticism, mythology and folklore.

Abbey has undertaken improvised theatre workshops for four years, and is a teacher and performer with On The Fly, StorySnorts and Alex & The Babes.

Abbey was shortlisted for the Publishable program through the Queensland Writers Centre. She self-published her first picture book, Baz Likes Hugs, in 2020. She is a member of Writers SA, and writes fiction and non-fiction for children and adults.
